If you could unravel a postage stamp sized piece of Optipouch cloth, it would stretch from England To France and back (twice). Optipouch is made from polyester and polyamide fibers that are split so that they are 100 times thinner than a human hair. Then they are knitted into a cloth. Pretty neat eh? they must use incredibly small needles. It is this microscopic construction that provides the key to optical microfiber's amazing absorption capacity. It's like the world's softest blotting paper, sucking up grease, fluid and microscopic dust particles and holding them in the tiniest of cavities inside the cloth. The dust is held in by electrostatic forces and anything liquid by capillary action - so any grease on the lens is completely removed with one wipe. And when Optipouch eventually gets dirty (it can take months) - you simply wash it. You can even leave it in your pocket when your trousers go in the washer, it won't be damaged. It's good for 200 washes. |
